Mercedes - Tensions are normal Wolff

Mercedes continue de faire main basse sur tous les trophées depuis le début de la saison. Hamilton a peut être gagné en solitaire il y a trois semaines en Chine, mais le pilote britannique a dû faire face au retour de son équipier dans les dernières boucles du Grand Prix cette semaine. Une course pas si simple à gérer que cela, surtout en interne, où l’on a fait le choix de mixer les stratégies une nouvelles fois pour ne pas avoir deux autos ensemble sur l’ensemble de la course. Toto Wolff, Team Principal de l’écurie basée à Brackley, revient sur la fin de week-end mouvementée.

“Superbe course ! On savait que la pole allait être un avantage, mais finalement c’était assez serré ! Hamilton a eu du mal avec du graining sur son dernier train de pneus durs, ” explique l’Autrichien.

La radio a été l’outil N°1 des pilotes et des ingénieurs pour faire tourner la course dans un sens ou dans l’autre.

“La stratégie est normalement planifiée à l’avance, mais vous avez pu voir que dans le feu de l’action, on peut faire des petits ajustements et on discute beaucoup avec les ingénieurs. Nous sommes une équipe, et bien que nous soyons dans une position très chanceuse, nous n’accepterions jamais une bagarre interne entre les deux côtés du garage.”

Chaque pilote étant sur une stratégie décalée (medium-medium-dur pour Hamilton, contre medium-dur-medium pour Rosberg), la fin de course s’est avérée plus tendue et incertaine que prévu. Avec des gommes plus performantes, c’est bien Nico Rosberg qui faisait meilleure impression en fin de course, ce qui n’a pas vraiment plu à Hamilton, alors en difficultés avec ses pneus durs.

“Quand tout est très serré, on ne réfléchit pas vraiment au langage qu’on utilise, Lewis a une très bonne relation avec ses ingénieurs ; il n’y a vraiment rien de grave dans le fait qu’il pouvait sembler tendu,” rassure le Team Principal.

Se sentant en danger et un peu inquiet après un dernier arrêt ayant duré 3 secondes, Hamilton a en effet haussé le ton à la radio. Mais au final, Mercedes signe un nouveau doublé, loin, même très loin du reste du plateau. Et c’est avec un total de 197 points que l’équipe allemande repart de son séjour à Barcelone, soit plus de 113 points d’avance sur son plus proche rival : Red Bull.
